Q: Can you play at my wedding?
A: Absolutely! In fact, I have played dozens of weddings for over 13 years now at venues across the country. Couples normally book me to entertain their guests at canapés while they are having their photos taken, but I also often play a specially requested song for the bride's entrance to the chapel, a set or 2 during dinner, or a special request for the first dance or father/daughter dance. I even have a package that includes a DJ and all sound and lighting required for all the festivities of the day!
Q: Do you do private events?
A: With pleasure! I have played for private clients at corporate functions, team-building events, 50th, 40th, 30th, 21st and even once at a sweet 16th!
Q: Can you play a specific song for us?
A: Yes! I would be happy to learn any song you want for a special moment. I charge an additional fee per request, unless it's a song I already know. Some of my most memorable moments are playing a song that I know has a special meaning to my clients!
Q: How does it work and what are your prices?
A: As booking myself for a date often leads to me having to turn other enquiries for the same date away, I ask a 50% deposit to secure a booking for a specific date. This deposit is non-refundable if the booking is cancelled within 60 days of the event date, as well as in the case of the DJ package (as I will have used the deposit to secure the DJ). The remaining 50% is due 10 days prior to the event date.
Q: Do you have a mic for the speeches?
A: Yes! You are welcome to the use of my sound equipment for speeches at the reception or announcements at the ceremony or canapés - as long as the sound system can stay where it is set up.
Q: We are getting married outside of Gauteng. Can you still perform for us?
A: Of course! I am always in for a road trip (or flight)! I only charge for travel if the venue is more than 50km from Centurion (100km roundtrip included in my standard rate). Thereafter I charge R5.00 per km and any relevant toll fees. If the venue is further than 200km from Centurion and the performance end-time is after 22:00, then I would also ask that you provide suitable accommodation for the night.
Q: There is no power at the ceremony as the venue is far from any building. Can you still perform for us?
A: Yes - within the realms of possibility. In this case, I will hire-in a battery powered portable speaker to amplify my guitar and voice, but these speakers have a limited battery life and come at an additional fee.
Q: We already have a DJ booked. Can you just use the same sound system as him?
A: Possibly. I would first need to get in touch with your DJ and find out if it's cool with them and what equipment they are bringing with on the day. If they are willing to supply and the equipment meets my relatively simple requirement, then sure!
Q: Garvie... What is that, Scottish? Do you play the bagpipes?
A: Um, yes it is. And no.
